Five high-current channels for large-scale home cinema systems
Rotel RMB-1585 MKII is a Class AB multichannel power amplifier rated at 210 W per channel into 8 ohms and 340 W into 4 ohms with all five channels driven.
The second generation updates power-supply circuits and amplification stages while retaining a five-channel architecture designed for high-power home cinema installations and multi-zone systems. Two toroidal transformers and slit-foil capacitors support current delivery, while RCA and XLR inputs allow pairing with high-level surround processors and preamplifiers.
Key features
- Five Class AB channels.
- 210 W per channel into 8 ohms with all channels driven.
- 340 W per channel into 4 ohms with all channels driven.
- 440 W per channel into 4 ohms with two channels driven.
- Dual high-current toroidal transformers.
- Low-ESR slit-foil capacitors.
- RCA and balanced XLR inputs.
- Rack brackets included and 12 V trigger for integrated installations.
Multichannel power
RMB-1585 MKII delivers 210 W per channel into 8 ohms and 340 W into 4 ohms with all five channels operating. With two channels driven it reaches 440 W into 4 ohms, highlighting reserve intended for dynamic soundtracks and loudspeakers with demanding loads.
Dual transformers
Two toroidal transformers built to Rotel specifications power the main sections separately. The dual supply distributes current demand and limits thermal stress, maintaining substantial reserve when several channels operate simultaneously at sustained levels.
Slit-foil capacitors
The filter section uses low-ESR slit-foil capacitors selected to release stored energy rapidly. This supports transients and bass when a soundtrack demands simultaneous peaks from several loudspeakers, helping prevent supply voltage from sagging under load.
Class AB stage
The five channels use Class AB amplification and declare THD below 0.03%. Response extends from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, providing wide bandwidth alongside a design focused on power, stability and loudspeaker control.
RCA and XLR
Each channel provides RCA and balanced XLR inputs, with sensitivities of 1.89 V on RCA and 4.7 V on XLR. The amplifier can therefore pair with consumer processors or balanced preamplifiers, choosing the path best suited to cable length and installation.
Loudspeaker control
Declared damping factor is 223 and signal-to-noise ratio reaches 120 dB. These figures accompany the amplifier's power capability and help keep woofer response defined, especially in multichannel systems where several loudspeakers may demand current at the same time.
Rack installation
The chassis measures 431 x 237 x 456 mm, weighs 37.4 kg and is supplied with rack brackets. A 12 V trigger allows coordinated power with processors and preamplifiers, making the amplifier suitable for dedicated cinema rooms and technical racks.
MKII updates
The MKII version introduces revisions to circuits and components in the power-supply and amplification stages. The aim is to improve delivery capability and behaviour under load while retaining the five-channel configuration that defines RMB-1585 in the Rotel range.
