Next-level performance without compromise
Rega Solis is a Reference stereo power amplifier delivering 168 W per channel into 8 ohms and 305 W into 4 ohms, with balanced and unbalanced inputs and discrete symmetrical circuitry.
Solis is the Reference stereo power amplifier developed by Rega to drive demanding loudspeakers with high current reserve and a controlled signal path. The circuit is fully discrete and symmetrical, with high-current output stages, twin toroidal transformers and dedicated power supplies. It delivers 168 W per channel into 8 ohms and 305 W into 4 ohms and provides balanced and unbalanced inputs, 12 V trigger, selectable standby and protection against short circuit, overheating and DC.
Key features
- 168 W per channel into 8 ohms and 305 W into 4 ohms
- Discrete symmetrical circuitry in the signal path
- Balanced and unbalanced inputs
- Short-circuit protection
- Thermal and DC protection
- Selectable standby mode
- 12 V trigger
- Independent Mute function
High-current output stage
The amplification circuit uses a symmetrical topology with a common-base driver stage, differentially driven and designed for high linearity and low distortion. Twelve 130 W Sanken transistors, six per channel, operate in the high-current output stage. The configuration was developed to provide the voltage and current required by complex loads while maintaining control even when loudspeaker impedance falls.
Separate power supply per channel
Two custom 330 VA toroidal transformers feed the channels and are paired with 40,000 µF of K-Power capacitance per side. The input and driver stages receive regulated low-noise symmetrical supplies, while the control and protection circuits have a dedicated supply galvanically isolated from the audio section. Power-on, standby and soft-start management also reduces the inrush current of the two transformers.
Protection and integration
A supervisory circuit monitors temperature and DC voltage at the outputs, operating together with the amplifier's protection systems when required. The 12 V trigger enables coordinated power-up with compatible components, while RCA and XLR inputs allow integration into different systems. The design also includes an independent Mute function and the option of using Solis with a dedicated preamplifier such as Mercury.
