The Q Acoustics Q SUB80 is the smallest active subwoofer in the Q SUB family: a 203 mm woofer in a sealed box, a 200 W continuous amplifier and DSP processing, for smaller rooms and compact speakers.
Q SUB80: 203 mm woofer, DSP and 200 W in a sealed box
The Q SUB80 is intended for small rooms and modestly sized speakers, such as the M20 and M40 actives or 3000c and 5000 series systems, including in a twin configuration. The 203 mm woofer uses a steel chassis with a paper cone and a rubber surround; its 38 mm voice coil works with an aluminium demodulation ring that reduces inductance-related distortion. The cabinet is a sealed box in 18 mm MDF, with a 36 mm baffle and internal bracing: having no reflex port, it can be moved close to walls and furniture.
The amplifier module, developed for this family, combines DSP, power stages and power supply. Its four digital output stages are connected in a parallel bridged arrangement, a solution that lowers output impedance, improves control over the woofer and sheds less heat. For the Q SUB80 power is 200 W continuous and 400 W peak, with 0.09% harmonic distortion at rated power and a maximum level of 107 dB at one metre.
The DSP recognises the type and level of the incoming signal, whether from a stereo preamplifier, active speakers or a home cinema system, and sets the gain by itself. For integration there are a low-pass filter adjustable between 50 and 250 Hz, phase inversion and delay adjustment, which allow the subwoofer to be aligned with the speakers even when its position in the room is not ideal. Stated response is 36-250 Hz at -6 dB; the cabinet measures 31.5 x 31.5 x 34.7 cm and weighs 15 kg.
