The Signature SUB 2 is a sealed active subwoofer with a hexagonal cabinet, six long-throw 254 mm drivers and an Ultra-Class-D amplifier with power factor correction, meant for large listening rooms and home cinemas where dynamics must not be limited.
Signature SUB 2: six drivers in a hexagonal cabinet
The Signature SUB 2 grows out of a clear mechanical idea: six identical drivers, two per side on three faces of a hexagonal cabinet, laid out radially so the reaction force of each one is cancelled by the others. Paradigm calls this layout VCDA. The outcome is a cabinet that stays almost still even at very high levels, without needing an especially elaborate internal brace structure, and a total radiating area greater than that of two 15-inch woofers.
Each driver has a co-polymer polypropylene cone with a 30% mineral fill and RCR ribs to control resonances, a ten-layer 76 mm aluminium voice coil and a die-cast aluminium chassis with AVS ventilation; a central heatsink in extruded aluminium carries heat away from the pole piece. On-axis response covers 9 to 260 Hz within ±3 dB, extension goes down to 7 Hz (DIN), and in-room the maker quotes 112 dB at 10 Hz and 126 dB at 60 Hz.
The amplifier, designed and made by Paradigm, has no mains transformer: its output stage is tied straight to the mains and power factor correction lets it draw roughly 95% of what the line can supply. On a 240 V line it produces 4,500 W RMS continuous and 9,000 W dynamic peak; it runs on any voltage from 108 to 265 V. A DSP shapes the response, inputs are RCA and balanced XLR, and the supplied PBK kit, which works with ARC Genesis software, matches the subwoofer to the room. The grilles cannot be removed.
