Wind refined with selected components and mechanical rake adjustment
Totem Wind Design is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker with an 8.5-inch woofer, twin midrange drivers and 1-inch tweeter, developed as the more refined version of Wind.
The two models share their basic architecture, frequency response and sensitivity, but Wind Design adds selected drivers, dedicated crossover components, a multilayer finish that increases cabinet rigidity and an articulated front mechanism for adjusting rake angle. It is aimed at systems where mechanical setup and component selection are treated as part of the acoustic design.
Key features
- Three-way floorstanding design using four drive units.
- 8.5-inch long-throw woofer.
- 2 x 5.5-inch midrange drivers with 3-inch voice coils.
- 1-inch alloy-dome tweeter with rear chamber.
- Declared bandwidth extends from 24 Hz to 21 kHz within ±3 dB.
- 4-ohm impedance and 87 dB sensitivity.
- Amplification is recommended within an 80-250 W range.
- Bi-wireable WBT terminals and approximate mass of 34 kg.
What changes compared with Wind
The acoustic topology remains the same, but Wind Design uses selected drive units and exclusive crossover parts. Its multilayer surface treatment increases structural rigidity, while the articulated front claw allows rake-angle adjustment and therefore finer spatial alignment. It is a version focused on closer optimisation rather than on adding more drivers or increasing sensitivity.
A three-way design for larger rooms
Extension to 24 Hz and the 8.5-inch woofer allow the loudspeaker to cover deep bass without automatically requiring a subwoofer. Twin midrange units share the work through the most sensitive part of the audio band and preserve dynamic capacity at higher levels. Cabinet geometry is also intended to maintain broad spatial presentation away from the central listening axis.
Fine tuning in the room
With a 4-ohm load and 87 dB sensitivity it benefits from a stable amplifier with good current delivery rather than simply a large headline wattage. Totem specifies roughly 0.9-2.1 m from the rear wall and about 1.8-4.3 m between speakers, so this is a design that needs medium-to-large or large rooms with genuine placement freedom. A rear decoupling assembly complements the adjustable front claw, allowing the loudspeaker geometry to be tuned without external supports when listening distance calls for a precise change in front-baffle angle. The wide recommended spacing between the two cabinets also supports a large-scale soundstage, consistent with use in dedicated listening rooms.
