Velodyne Deep Blue 15

Deep Blue 15: 15-inch sealed active subwoofer

A sealed active subwoofer from the Deep Blue series, with a 15" long-excursion front-firing driver and a reinforced polypropylene cone. The cabinet is MDF, with a 52 mm thick front baffle to keep vibration and distortion down.

Amplification and connections

The amplifier is class AB; the four-layer voice coil works with a dual ferrite magnet. Level, crossover frequency (50 to 180 Hz) and phase (0 to 180°) can be adjusted to suit the room and the speakers. Stereo RCA, LFE and high-level inputs; LFE/RCA output for connecting a second subwoofer.

Connecting it to the system

It connects to the subwoofer (LFE) output of a home cinema receiver or, in a stereo system, to the line outputs of the preamplifier or to the speaker terminals through the high-level input. With automatic power-on it wakes up by itself when a signal arrives and goes back to standby when the music stops.
